Bangladesh make surprise announcement ahead of clash with Vietnam

Hanoi, 19 March, 2026 – According to an announcement from the Bangladesh Football Federation, the Bangladesh national team will arrive in Hanoi on the morning of March 21, five days ahead of their scheduled friendly match against Vietnam at Hang Day Stadium.

The early arrival and five-day preparation period highlight Bangladesh’s serious approach and strong determination, as they aim to adapt to the weather, pitch conditions, and overall playing environment in Vietnam.

Previously, Bangladesh regrouped on March 16 to begin preparations for the March 2026 FIFA Days. However, head coach Javier Penato has yet to announce the official squad for the trip to Vietnam.

Still, the preliminary squad has drawn attention, notably featuring midfielder Hamza Choudhury, who plays for Leicester and has experience in the English Premier League. In addition, several players developed in advanced football systems such as England, Finland, the United States, Canada, and Denmark have also been included.

According to the schedule, the friendly match between Vietnam and Bangladesh will take place at 19:00 on March 26 at Hang Day Stadium. Following this game, Vietnam will host Malaysia in the final round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers at Thien Truong Stadium on March 31, also at 19:00.

After their match in Hanoi, Bangladesh will travel to face Singapore away on March 31. Currently, Bangladesh are no longer in contention for qualification to the continental finals, sitting third in their group, six points behind group leaders Singapore ahead of the final round of qualifiers.
