Golden star warriors close in on FIFA top 100

Hanoi, 23 March 2026 – Vietnam national team has climbed five places to 103rd in the world and 18th in Asia, according to the latest FIFA rankings update on March 23.

The “Golden Star Warriors” gained 24.11 points, moving closer to the Top 100. This rise comes largely from the points awarded following their match against Malaysia in Group F of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. After the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) imposed a 3–0 forfeit on Malaysia for fielding ineligible players in matches against Nepal and Vietnam, coach Kim Sang Sik’s side secured early qualification for the 2027 Asian Cup finals.

According to the schedule, Vietnam will assemble their full squad on March 23 to prepare for the March 2026 FIFA Days. During this period, they will play two international matches: a friendly against Bangladesh on March 26 and a home match against Malaysia on March 31 in the final round of the Asian Cup qualifiers.

This ranking boost is seen as a significant step forward both in terms of performance and team morale. Vietnam now has a strong opportunity to continue earning points as they face Bangladesh and then meet Malaysia again. Within Southeast Asia, Vietnam remain second but have narrowed the gap with leaders Thailand to just seven places.

If they achieve positive results in these upcoming matches, Vietnam’s FIFA ranking is expected to improve further, potentially returning to the Top 100 in the world—a milestone they last reached in 2023 under coach Park Hang Seo.
