Vietnam’s representative eliminated in the quarterfinals of AFC Women’s Champions League 2025/26

Laos, 28 March 2026 – Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 2025/2026 AFC Women’s Champions League after a 0–3 defeat to North Korean side Naegohyang, ending their campaign without reaching the semifinals.

Facing a physically strong and well-organized opponent, the Vietnamese representatives struggled to impose their style of play and were largely on the back foot throughout the match. Naegohyang gradually asserted their dominance and capitalized on key moments to secure a convincing victory. Kim Hye Yong opened the scoring in the 40th minute, giving the North Korean side a deserved lead before halftime. In the second half, Jong Kum doubled the advantage in the 66th minute, and Kim Kyong Yong sealed the result with a third goal in the 84th minute.

Despite the overall pressure from their opponents, Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC still managed to create a few notable chances. Just before halftime, Thu Thao had an opportunity to equalize but her shot narrowly missed the target. Later in the match, captain Huynh Nhu also came close in the 79th minute, only to see her effort go wide in a moment that summed up the team’s lack of luck and sharpness in front of goal.

Compared to their impressive run in the previous season, where they reached the semifinals, this result marks a step back for the Vietnamese club on the continental stage. However, the experience gained from facing top-level opponents is expected to be valuable for the team’s long-term development.

With this victory, Naegohyang advance to the semifinals and will face the winner of the quarterfinal clash between Wuhan Jiangda and Suwon.
