Xuan Son back to full fitness, vows to strike against Malaysia at Thien Truong

Hanoi, 28 March 2026 – Striker Nguyen Xuan Son has confirmed that he has fully recovered and is now back to peak fitness, while expressing strong determination to score when Vietnam face Malaysia at Thien Truong Stadium.

Speaking to the media during Vietnam’s training session on March 28, Xuan Son provided an update on his recent injury. He revealed that he had a minor issue before the friendly against Bangladesh but has now completely recovered.

“Before the last match, I had a small problem with my leg, but everything is fine now. I’ve recovered well and I’m back to 100% fitness,” Xuan Son said.

After missing several chances in Vietnam’s 3–0 win over Bangladesh, the striker admitted he is highly motivated to find the net in the upcoming clash with Malaysia. The match will be played at Thien Truong Stadium—home of Nam Dinh, his club—where he has often delivered standout performances in V.League 1.

“Thien Truong is a very special stadium for me, it feels like home. I’ve been waiting for a match like this for a long time. Playing here makes it even more meaningful,” he shared.

Xuan Son also set his sights on helping Vietnam secure victory, while hoping to score and dedicate the goal to the fans—especially as the match takes place on his birthday, adding extra significance to the occasion.

He also expressed excitement about playing alongside Do Hoang Hen again. The two previously developed strong chemistry during their time together at Nam Dinh.

“We’ve played together for a while, so there’s not much difference. We just need a bit more time to connect better with the rest of the team,” he added.

Vietnam are expected to complete their final training session in Hanoi on March 29 before traveling to Ninh Binh for the decisive Asian Cup qualifier against Malaysia, scheduled for 19:00 on March 31.
