Ninh Binh, 1 April 2026 – Nguyen Xuan Son reached a major milestone with the Vietnam national team after scoring a brace against Malaysia on March 31.
The striker netted twice in Vietnam’s 3–1 win, playing a key role in helping coach Kim Sang-sik’s side complete the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualification with a perfect 18 points.
Individually, those two goals took Xuan Son to 10 goals for Vietnam—a remarkable feat achieved in just eight appearances. The 1997-born forward has now become the fastest player in the team’s history to reach double digits.
His tally also puts him close to breaking into the top 10 all-time scorers for Vietnam. Notable names such as Nguyen Anh Duc, Nguyen Cong Phuong, and Nguyen Trong Hoang currently have 12 goals each.
Of Xuan Son’s 10 goals, seven came during the ASEAN Cup 2024, while the remaining three were scored in the Asian Cup qualifying campaign.
Across his eight appearances, Xuan Son has failed to score in only two matches—against Thailand in the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2024 final and in a recent friendly against Bangladesh—highlighting his impressive consistency in front of goal.
