China, 4 May 2026 – Vietnam Women’s U17 National Football Team were unable to pull off an upset against China Women’s U17 National Football Team, suffering a 3-0 defeat in a match where the gap in quality was evident. Despite the loss, the result was still considered respectable for coach Okiyama Masahiko’s side against one of the top title contenders at the 2026 AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup finals.
As expected, Vietnam approached the game with a defensive strategy. Facing a physically and technically superior Chinese side, the visitors had little opportunity to push forward or maintain possession. The match was largely played in one direction, with Vietnam focusing mainly on clearing the ball away from danger while China continuously pressured the penalty area in front of goalkeeper Cam My.
China’s physical advantages, especially in aerial duels, became one of their main attacking weapons. With Vietnam defending compactly through the middle to block direct attacks, the hosts frequently relied on crosses, set pieces, and wide attacks to create openings.
The breakthrough arrived just 16 minutes into the match. From a corner kick, Ju Zhitong rose highest to head home the opening goal for China. The forward doubled the advantage in the 32nd minute after connecting with a low cross inside the box.
Throughout the first half, Vietnam spent most of the time defending deep inside their own half and struggled to create meaningful attacking opportunities. The team rarely managed to move the ball near China’s penalty area as the hosts completely controlled possession and tempo.
Any hopes of improvement after halftime quickly disappeared when China scored a third goal early in the second half. Once again, the danger came from a corner kick, with Cheng Wandi finding the net to extend the lead to 3-0.
Despite the pressure and China’s determination to secure a dominant victory, Vietnam continued fighting with strong spirit and discipline, working hard to limit further damage for the remainder of the match.
The victory moved China to six points from two matches, securing their place in the quarterfinals from Group A. Meanwhile, Vietnam have collected just one point after two games, but still retain a strong chance of advancing if they can defeat Myanmar Women’s U17 National Football Team in the final group-stage match.
