Vietnam U19 face fiery test ahead of ASEAN U19 championship opener

Indonesia, 29 May 2026 – Vietnam U19 successfully overcame challenging conditions during their final preparations ahead of the opening match against Timor-Leste U19 at the ASEAN U19 Championship 2026.

On May 29, Vietnam U19 held their first training session in Medan, Indonesia, as coach Yutaka Ikeuchi and his squad entered the final stage of preparations for the regional tournament.

After settling into their accommodation and recovering from the journey from Vietnam, the players quickly returned to work with an intensive training program. The session marked the team’s first workout since arriving in Medan on the evening of May 28.

Training took place under demanding weather conditions, with temperatures reaching around 32°C. However, the players were able to adapt relatively quickly, having already trained in similar heat during recent camps in Hanoi. The familiarity with hot conditions is expected to help the team adjust smoothly and prepare effectively for the matches ahead.

In addition to technical drills and ball work, the coaching staff focused on physical exercises designed to help players shake off fatigue from travel and regain match fitness as quickly as possible.

According to the coaching staff, the squad showed strong concentration, discipline, and determination throughout the session. The players successfully completed the planned workload while maintaining good physical condition and a positive mindset ahead of the tournament.

Training facilities and pitch conditions in Medan have also received positive assessments, providing the team with an ideal environment to continue their preparations.

At the ASEAN U19 Championship 2026, Vietnam U19 have been drawn into Group A alongside hosts Indonesia U19, Myanmar U19, and Timor-Leste U19. Vietnam will begin their campaign against Timor-Leste on June 1 before facing Myanmar on June 4 and Indonesia on June 7.
