Coach Kim Sang-sik calls up six naturalized players for AFF ASEAN Cup 2026 preparations

Hanoi, 15 June 2026 – Coach Kim Sang-sik has named a 28-man squad for the national team’s preparations ahead of the. AFF ASEAN Cup 2026, with the roster reflecting a blend of experienced internationals, emerging young talents, and several naturalized and overseas-born players.

Announced on the morning of June 15, the squad highlights Kim Sang-sik’s intention to build a balanced team capable of competing for regional honors. Alongside established stars, the call-up list includes a number of players with diverse footballing backgrounds who have impressed at club level in recent months.

Among the notable selections are naturalized and overseas-born players such as Nguyen Xuan Son, Dang Van Lam, and Do Hoang Hen. They are joined by newcomers Patrik Le Giang, Nguyen Tai Loc, and Ngo Dang Khoa, all of whom have earned their first opportunities with the national team. Their inclusion is expected to provide additional depth, physical presence, and tactical flexibility across multiple positions.

At the same time, Kim Sang-sik has retained the core group that has formed the backbone of the national team in recent years. Experienced figures including Nguyen Quang Hai, Nguyen Hoang Duc, Do Duy Manh, Le Pham Thanh Long, Doan Van Hau, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Nguyen Van Vi, Nguyen Hai Long, Pham Xuan Manh, Nguyen Thanh Chung, and Truong Tien Anh continue to play key roles in the squad. Their international experience and leadership are expected to be crucial as Vietnam prepares for another major regional campaign.

According to the training schedule, the team will assemble in Hanoi on June 22 before beginning preparations for the tournament. Following a short domestic training period, Vietnam will travel to South Korea for an overseas training camp from July 2 to July 14, where the team is scheduled to play three international friendlies as part of its evaluation and tactical preparations.

After returning from South Korea, the squad will continue training in Hanoi before facing Myanmar National Football Team in an international friendly on July 18 at Thai Nguyen Stadium. The match will serve as the final major test for Kim Sang-sik and his coaching staff as they finalize the squad and preparations for the AFF ASEAN Cup 2026.

With a mixture of proven veterans, rising prospects, and new faces competing for places, Vietnam’s preparations for the regional championship are now set to enter a crucial phase in the coming weeks.
