OFFICIAL: Golden Star Warriors to begin ASEAN Cup 2026 campaign in Thailand

Hanoi, 8 July 2026 – The Timor-Leste Football Federation (FFTL) has officially confirmed that Chonburi Stadium in Thailand will serve as the team’s home venue for its matches at the 2026 ASEAN Championship.

According to the tournament schedule, Timor-Leste will be Vietnam’s first opponent in the group stage. With FFTL selecting Chonburi Stadium as its home ground, head coach Kim Sang Sik and his players will begin their title defense there on July 24.

Timor-Leste have been unable to host official international matches at home in recent years because the country’s national stadium does not yet meet the competition’s infrastructure and licensing requirements. As a result, the national team has regularly staged its home fixtures in Thailand or Malaysia. For the 2026 ASEAN Championship, FFTL has once again chosen Chonburi Stadium as its designated home venue.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam national team are currently holding a training camp in Incheon, South Korea, as they enter the final phase of preparations for the regional tournament. After opening the camp with a convincing victory over Siheung FC, the squad will face Yongin FC of K League 2 later today in their second friendly.

The match is expected to provide a tougher challenge, allowing Kim Sang Sik and his coaching staff to further assess the squad, test tactical plans, and continue shaping their strongest lineup for the ASEAN Championship.

According to the schedule, Vietnam will conclude the South Korea training camp with one final friendly against Gangwon FC of K League 1 on July 13 before returning home.

After arriving back in Vietnam, the Golden Star Warriors will complete their preparations with an international friendly against Myanmar at Thai Nguyen Stadium on July 18. That match will serve as the team’s final rehearsal before launching the defense of their 2026 ASEAN Championship title against Timor-Leste at Chonburi Stadium on July 24.
