Vietnam Volleyball set for South Korea rematch at the 2026 Asian Games

Tokyo, 23 July 2026 – The official draw for the indoor volleyball tournaments at the 2026 Asian Games (ASIAD 2026) was held on July 23 in Nagoya, Japan, producing challenging group-stage matchups for Vietnam’s national teams.

Vietnam Women Drawn Alongside South Korea

The Vietnam women’s national volleyball team have been placed in Group D, where they will face South Korea, Hong Kong (China), and Qatar.

The group is expected to be highly competitive, but Vietnam will still have a realistic opportunity to challenge for a place in the knockout stage.

One of the most anticipated fixtures will be Vietnam’s rematch against South Korea. The two sides last met in the 2026 AVC Cup, where South Korea claimed a straight-set victory (3-0) in the semifinals, ending Vietnam’s hopes of defending the continental title.

That defeat also brought an end to Vietnam’s remarkable run of three consecutive AVC Cup championships, making the upcoming encounter at the Asian Games an opportunity for head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his players to seek redemption on one of Asia’s biggest sporting stages.

Vietnam Men Receive Favorable Draw

In the men’s competition, Vietnam have been drawn into Group C alongside Qatar, India, and Hong Kong (China).

Compared to the women’s draw, the men’s group is considered relatively balanced, giving Vietnam a genuine chance of advancing beyond the preliminary round if they perform to their potential.

The 2026 Asian Games indoor volleyball competition will be held at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium and Park Arena Komaki in Nagoya, Japan.

The women’s tournament is scheduled to take place from September 16 to 22, while the men’s competition will run from September 27 to October 3.

With both teams now knowing their opponents, Vietnam can begin fine-tuning their preparations for the Asian Games. While the women’s squad faces a difficult challenge against one of the continent’s traditional powerhouses, the men’s team will be aiming to capitalize on a favorable draw as they pursue a deep run at ASIAD 2026.
