Hanoi, 30 July 2026 – Vietnam forward Nguyen Dinh Bac has emphasized that team success remains his top priority, despite his outstanding individual form heading into the ASEAN Cup 2026 clash against Singapore.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a dream start to the tournament, scoring a hat-trick in Vietnam’s emphatic 7-0 victory over Timor-Leste. Dinh Bac also impressed with his chemistry alongside fellow forwards Nguyen Xuan Son and Do Hoang Hen, forming one of the tournament’s most dangerous attacking trios.
However, speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of Friday’s encounter with Singapore, Dinh Bac was quick to downplay his personal achievements, insisting that Vietnam’s strength lies in its collective effort rather than any individual partnership.
“Football is a team sport, not just about the connection between myself, Xuan Son and Hoang Hen,” Dinh Bac said. “The strength of the Vietnam national team comes from the entire squad. We’ve prepared well and we’re fully ready to deliver a strong performance and achieve a positive result against Singapore.”
The striker also acknowledged the growing expectations surrounding him following his hat-trick but stressed that securing victory is far more important than adding to his personal goal tally.
“I’m fully prepared and highly motivated for this match. I know the fans have high expectations, but I believe the team’s success is what matters most,” he said. “Whether it’s me or another teammate who scores, as long as Vietnam beat Singapore, I’ll be happy.”
Dinh Bac revealed that Vietnam have spent the past week working intensively on their preparations after their opening-round victory. He believes a positive result at My Dinh National Stadium would not only strengthen the defending champions’ position in Group A but also provide valuable momentum ahead of their crucial away fixture against Indonesia in the next round.
Vietnam will host Singapore at 8:00 p.m. local time on July 31, with both teams aiming to strengthen their chances of reaching the knockout stage of the ASEAN Cup 2026.
