Hanoi, 30 July 2026 – Vietnam will head into their ASEAN Cup 2026 meeting with Singapore boasting an impressive 28-year unbeaten record against the Lions.
Since Vietnam’s return to international football, the two nations have met 22 times in official competitions and international friendlies. Vietnam hold the superior head-to-head record, with nine wins, nine draws, and just four defeats against Singapore.
Notably, all four of Vietnam’s losses came during the 1990s. Their most recent defeat was a 1-0 setback in the final of the 1998 AFF Championship, then known as the Tiger Cup.
Since that loss in 1998, Vietnam have gone unbeaten in 16 consecutive matches against Singapore. Over that remarkable 28-year run, the Golden Star Warriors have recorded eight victories and eight draws, scoring 20 goals while conceding only seven.
The two sides most recently met at the 2024 ASEAN Cup, where Vietnam defeated Singapore in both legs of the semifinals en route to winning the title. Kim Sang Sik’s men claimed a 2-0 away victory before sealing qualification with a convincing 3-1 win at home.
That dominant record will give Vietnam added confidence ahead of hosting Singapore in their third Group A fixture of the ASEAN Cup 2026. However, past results offer no guarantees, as Singapore will be eager to end a winless streak against Vietnam that has stretched for nearly three decades.
The Group A encounter is scheduled to kick off at 8:00 p.m. local time on July 31 at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi, with both teams aiming to strengthen their position in the race for a place in the knockout stage.
