Vietnam U17 will return to training on September 20 as head coach Cristiano Roland begins the next phase of preparations for the country’s historic first appearance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Following their campaign at the 2026 AFC U17 Asian Cup, Vietnam’s young players will regroup at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, with Roland naming a 29-man squad for the latest training camp.
The core of the squad remains largely unchanged, with the majority of players having featured during Vietnam’s AFC U17 Asian Cup campaign earlier this year.
However, Roland has also called up seven new faces as he looks to expand his options ahead of the world tournament.
The new additions include goalkeepers Nguyen Thai Son of Hanoi FC and Nguyen Viet Dung of PVF; defenders Tran Xuan Toan of Cong An Ha Noi FC, Bui Trung Hieu of PVF and Phung Quang Danh of The Cong Viettel; as well as midfielders Nguyen Trong Phong of PVF and Ta Dinh Phong of SHB Da Nang.

With a larger pool of players available, the training camp will give Roland and his coaching staff another opportunity to assess the squad and identify the strongest options for Vietnam’s World Cup campaign.
The preparation period will also be important for the players to gain further experience, improve technically and tactically, and adapt to the demands of competing at FIFA level.
Vietnam U17 are scheduled to begin training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center on September 20.
As part of their preparations, the team are also expected to hold an overseas training camp in a West Asian country before travelling to Qatar for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2026.
The tournament represents a major milestone for Vietnamese youth football, with the country set to compete at the FIFA U-17 World Cup for the first time in its history.
Vietnam have been drawn in Group G alongside Belgium, New Zealand and Mali, presenting Cristiano Roland’s side with a major challenge as they prepare to make their debut on the global stage.
