Coach Kim Sang-sik has officially named a 23-man Vietnam squad for the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, retaining the core of the team that recently lifted the ASEAN Championship while handing first senior call-ups to Nguyen Adou Leygley Minh and Williams Minh Hoang.
The majority of the players who helped Vietnam successfully defend their ASEAN Championship title have been retained for the upcoming international window.
Key names include goalkeeper Le Giang Patrik, Nguyen Thanh Chung, Pham Xuan Manh, Nguyen Hoang Duc, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Nguyen Hai Long, Nguyen Quang Hai, Le Pham Thanh Long, Nguyen Dinh Bac and Nguyen Xuan Son.
Nguyen Van Viet, Le Ngoc Bao and Cao Pendant Quang Vinh also return to the national-team setup.
The most notable additions are Nguyen Adou Leygley Minh and Williams Minh Hoang, who have both earned their first call-ups to the senior Vietnam national team.
Born in 1997, Adou Leygley Minh currently plays for Cong An Ha Noi FC. The French-Vietnamese centre-back has gained experience in V.League 1 and has been confirmed by FIFA as eligible to represent Vietnam at international level.
Williams Minh Hoang, meanwhile, was born in 2007 and currently represents Ho Chi Minh City Police FC.
The Vietnamese-English defender stands 1.90 metres tall and has already made an impression during his first season in V.League 1. His call-up at the age of 19 provides him with an opportunity to experience the senior national-team environment and gain valuable experience ahead of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.
The FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 will take place during the September 2026 FIFA international window, featuring 14 national teams divided into two divisions.
Vietnam will compete in Division 1, Group B alongside Thailand, the Philippines and Pakistan.
Kim Sang-sik’s side will open their campaign against the Philippines on September 26 before facing Thailand on September 29 and Pakistan on October 2.
Vietnam’s opening match against the Philippines is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. on September 26 at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung.
With only a limited preparation period available, retaining the majority of the squad that recently competed together at the ASEAN Championship should provide Vietnam with continuity in both personnel and their tactical approach.
The FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 will offer Vietnam another opportunity to test themselves against regional opposition as Kim Sang-sik’s side look to build on their recent ASEAN Championship success.
