Hanoi, 22 June 2026 – The Golden Star Warriors officially began its training camp in Hanoi on June 22 as preparations for the 2026 ASEAN Cup gathered pace, with head coach Kim Sang-sik naming a 28-player squad and introducing a new assistant coach to his backroom staff.
The national team welcomed former South Korean international Kim Do Heon as Kim Sang-sik’s newest assistant, filling the vacancy left by Lee Jung Soo, who departed the Vietnam setup in April 2026 to pursue a coaching opportunity in Thailand.
Kim Do Heon brings a wealth of experience from both his playing and coaching careers. He featured for West Bromwich Albion during the 2008/09 Premier League season, making 25 appearances. Domestically, he enjoyed a distinguished career in the K League with clubs including Suwon FC, Seongnam FC, and Police FC, earning four consecutive selections to the league’s Team of the Season. At international level, he won 62 caps and scored 12 goals for the South Korean national team.
His coaching journey began with Chinese club Chengdu Rongcheng in 2019. In 2023, he took charge of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors on an interim basis, guiding the team to six wins, two draws, and just one defeat to lift them away from the relegation zone. His impressive results earned him a permanent appointment as head coach in 2024.

All the players and staff will spend the next 10 days training in Hanoi before heading to South Korea for a nearly two-week overseas training camp. During their stay, the team is scheduled to play three friendly matches before returning home for a final warm-up fixture against Myanmar national football team on July 18 in Thai Nguyen.
The reigning ASEAN champions will open their 2026 ASEAN Cup campaign away to Timor-Leste national football team on July 24. They will then host Singapore national football team on July 31, travel to face Indonesia national football team on August 3, and conclude the group stage at home against Cambodia national football team on August 7.
