Vietnam U18 women’s volleyball team make perfect start at Southeast Asian Championship

Playing their opening group-stage match on Monday morning local time, the young Vietnamese side faced U18 Kyrgyzstan in their first test of the tournament. Ahead of the match, head coach Ngoc Hoa and her coaching staff emphasized the importance of maintaining focus, stressing that a strong start would be crucial to the team’s ambitions.

The players responded brilliantly on the court, delivering a dominant performance from start to finish. Vietnam showcased confidence and composure throughout the contest, consistently overpowering their opponents with effective attacking plays and solid teamwork. The team’s blocking unit proved particularly impressive, successfully neutralizing most of Kyrgyzstan’s attacking efforts across all three sets.

Led by captain Bui Thi Anh Thao, Vietnam controlled the tempo of the match and executed their tactical game plan efficiently. With strong coordination and a comfortable mindset, the Vietnamese attackers repeatedly found gaps in the opposition’s defense to score crucial points.

Vietnam’s superiority was reflected in the scoreline as they cruised to set victories of 25-11, 25-5, and 25-15. The straight-set win secured a convincing 3-0 triumph and provided the team with a perfect start to this year’s competition.

The 2026 Southeast Asian U18 Women’s Volleyball Championship features eight participating teams and runs from June 23 to June 28 in Thailand. The tournament is widely regarded as an important warm-up event ahead of the 2026 Asian U18 Women’s Volleyball Championship, which will also be held in Thailand from July 1 to July 7.

Vietnam will return to action on June 24 when they take on the Philippines in their second group-stage match, aiming to build on their strong opening performance and maintain momentum in the competition.
