New Aussie head coach Joins V.League 1 side

Ho Chi Minh City, 15 July 2026 – Ho Chi Minh City Police FC have officially appointed Australian coach Arthur Diles as their new head coach for the 2026/27 season, marking a significant step in the club’s ambition to strengthen its position in the V.League 1.

Diles succeeds interim coach Phung Thanh Phuong, whose successful spell in charge culminated in the club winning the National Cup. The appointment signals the beginning of a new chapter as Ho Chi Minh City Police FC look to build on that success with a long-term vision.

Born in 1982, Arthur Diles is a highly regarded coach with a Pro Licence and extensive experience across the Asia-Pacific region. His coaching résumé includes spells in the A-League Men and the Greek Super League, where he earned a reputation for implementing disciplined, well-organized football and making effective tactical adjustments.

One of the highlights of his managerial career came with Melbourne Victory, whom he guided to the 2024/25 A-League Men Grand Final, further enhancing his credentials as one of Australia’s promising coaches.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, a representative of Ho Chi Minh City Police FC emphasized that the appointment is part of the club’s broader long-term strategy.

“Appointing Arthur Diles is not simply about improving results in the short term. It is a strategic decision aimed at building a professional and sustainable football identity for the club over at least the next three years,” the club representative said.

The appointment has generated excitement among the club’s supporters. Diles’ modern football philosophy, commitment to developing young players, and experience working under pressure are expected to help address the tactical shortcomings that have limited the team’s progress in recent seasons.

Despite the optimism, the Australian coach faces several immediate challenges. Adapting to the demands of Vietnamese football, adjusting to the local climate, and quickly familiarizing himself with the unique characteristics of the V.League will all be crucial in determining his early success.

With substantial investment and a new head coach in place, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC have sent a clear message ahead of the 2026/27 campaign: the club is determined to re-establish itself as one of the leading forces in Vietnamese football.
