Hanoi, 5 August 2026 – The organizing committee has confirmed the officiating team for Vietnam’s final Group A match against Cambodia at the ASEAN Cup 2026, with a familiar face set to take charge of the crucial encounter.
According to the tournament schedule, Vietnam will host Cambodia at 8:00 p.m. on August 7 at My Dinh National Stadium, with both teams aiming to finish the group stage on a high.
The match will be officiated by Cheung Wai Lung from Hong Kong, who has been appointed as the referee. He will be assisted by fellow Hong Kong official Lam Cheuk Hong, while Apichit Nophuan and Alongkorn Khonwai of Thailand complete the officiating team.
Although Cheung Wai Lung only obtained his FIFA referee badge in 2026, the 31-year-old has quickly earned a reputation for his strict approach to officiating. During the 2025/26 season, he issued 47 yellow cards in just 10 matches, highlighting his willingness to punish reckless challenges and maintain firm control of games.
The referee is no stranger to Vietnamese football. He previously officiated the international friendly between Vietnam and Bangladesh at Hang Day Stadium in March 2026, a match that saw Kim Sang-sik’s side record a comfortable 3-0 victory.
Vietnam head into the fixture in excellent form. The defending champions currently top Group A with seven points from three matches, edging Singapore on goal difference.
Kim Sang-sik’s men have also been impressive in recent weeks, winning four and drawing one of their last five matches. During that run, Vietnam have scored 17 goals while conceding just once, underlining their strength at both ends of the pitch.
At the ASEAN Cup 2026, Vietnam’s attack has already produced 10 goals in three matches, while history is also firmly on the hosts’ side. The Golden Star Warriors have won each of their last five meetings with Cambodia.
With home advantage, strong recent form, and an excellent head-to-head record, Vietnam enter the match as clear favorites. However, the appointment of the card-happy Cheung Wai Lung adds another intriguing element to what promises to be an important conclusion to the Group A campaign.
