Binh Phuoc, 21 June, 2025 – Binh Phuoc secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Long An in the final round of the 2024-2025 V.League 2 season on June 21, earning a ticket to the playoff match for promotion to V.League 1 next season.
The match, held at Binh Phuoc Stadium, attracted a packed crowd with many fans watching from outside the fence. With promotion hopes on the line, Binh Phuoc needed a win to finish second in the standings and secure a playoff spot. Head coach Huynh Quoc Anh fielded his strongest squad, featuring the return of Nguyen Cong Phuong after injury and the inclusion of veteran winger Tran Phi Son, who joined the team late in the season from his hometown club.
Facing a young Long An side, mostly made up of players from the Hoang Anh Gia Lai academy, Binh Phuoc pressed aggressively from the start. Phi Son had a goal ruled out for offside in the 15th minute, but he made no mistake in the 28th minute, slotting home from close range to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Cong Phuong and Phi Son, once dubbed the “Ronaldo and Messi” of Vietnamese football, reunited on the pitch after previously playing together at Ho Chi Minh City FC. Their experience helped drive Binh Phuoc’s attacking play.

In the second half, Binh Phuoc continued to dominate possession while Long An focused on defense and sporadic counterattacks. However, their efforts were unable to trouble veteran goalkeeper Bui Tan Truong.
Long An’s squad had an average age of 22.7 and will now return to Hoang Anh Gia Lai to participate in youth competitions. As fatigue set in late in the game, Binh Phuoc capitalized on their chances.
In the 76th minute, Cong Phuong delivered a well-placed free kick which Luu Tu Nhan headed into the net to double the lead. Just three minutes later, Tu Nhan was fouled in the box and stepped up to convert the penalty, sealing a 3-0 win for Binh Phuoc.
With his brace, Luu Tu Nhan finished as the top scorer of the 2024-2025 V.League 2 season, scoring 9 goals.
Binh Phuoc ended the season as runners-up with 44 points, trailing champions Ninh Binh by 14 points, and edging third-place PVF-CAND by one. The club was awarded a prize of 1 billion VND for their second-place finish.
Binh Phuoc will face the 13th-placed team in V.League 1 in a high-stakes promotion/relegation playoff match, scheduled for June 27 at Thong Nhat Stadium.
Meanwhile, Hue FC became the only team relegated to V.League 3.
