Hanoi, 11 August, 2025 – Hanoi FC has officially completed the signing of Brazilian defensive midfielder Willian Maranhão, marking a significant addition to their squad ahead of the new season. The defensive midfield position has long been a key area of focus for the club’s fans in recent years, and this acquisition is seen as a major step toward strengthening the team’s spine.
According to Transfermarkt, Maranhão is valued at over 1 million USD, underscoring the magnitude of the deal. Born in 1995 and a product of Boavista SC’s youth academy, the midfielder began his professional career in 2014. He brings with him extensive top-flight experience, having spent five seasons in Brazil’s Serie A with clubs such as Vasco da Gama, Santos, and Atlético Goianiense.
Throughout his career, Maranhão has made over 300 professional appearances and has faced some of Brazil’s most renowned stars, including Lucas Paquetá, Éderson, Hulk, Diego, Fred, and Gabriel Barbosa. His wealth of experience and proven ability at the highest level are expected to make him an influential figure in Hanoi FC’s midfield.
Speaking about his move, Maranhão admitted the decision was not easy, as this will be his first time playing outside of Brazil. However, Hanoi FC’s vision and ambitions ultimately convinced him to take on the challenge.
“I was hesitant because this is my first time playing outside Brazil, but the club’s strategy and direction truly convinced me. I am here to aim for the championship and, beyond that, to compete with the team in the AFC Champions League and the Shopee Cup,” Maranhão shared.
With this high-profile signing, Hanoi FC sends a clear signal of their intent to challenge for major titles both domestically and on the continental stage in the upcoming season.
