Vietnam’s Top Tennis Player Ly Hoang Nam to Compete in Three Consecutive World Tennis Tour M25 Tournaments in India
Vietnam’s top tennis player, Ly Hoang Nam, is set to travel to India tomorrow, January 6th, to participate in three consecutive World Tennis Tour M25 tournaments starting from January 8th. The aim is to earn points to improve his global ranking.
Currently ranked 562nd in the world, Hoang Nam’s plan, as informed by Hai Dang Tay Ninh Club’s coaching staff, includes participating in the M25 Mandya (January 8-14), M25 Bhopal (January 15-21), and M25 Chennai (January 22-28). After the Indian tour, the Tay Ninh native will return to Vietnam to join the national team in preparation for the Davis Cup playoff against South Africa.
Reflecting on 2023, it was a challenging year for Vietnam’s number one player. Starting the year at rank 244 and nearly qualifying for the Grand Slam Australian Open, he experienced a significant drop to rank 562 by the end of 2023.
In 2024, Hoang Nam’s competition schedule will shift focus to World Tennis Tour M25 events rather than regularly participating in higher-level ATP Challenger 50, 80, 100 tournaments as he did in 2023. The strategy for registering in Challenger tournaments will depend on his world ranking and discussions with his coaching team. Hoang Nam aims to return to the top 250, a position he held at the end of 2022, and has a long-term goal of breaking into the top 100 before turning 30.
To prepare for the new year, Ly Hoang Nam underwent a two-week training camp in Thailand in late December. The 27-year-old player from Hai Dang Tay Ninh Club is determined to achieve his goals in 2024.
