‘Smiling’ Referee to Officiate Japan vs Vietnam Match at AFC Asian Cup 2023

Familiar Referee to Vietnamese Fans, Kim Jong Hyeok, to Officiate Vietnam vs Japan Match at AFC Asian Cup 2023

The AFC recently announced the list of referees who will officiate the Vietnam vs Japan match in the opening round of the AFC Asian Cup 2023, scheduled for 6:30 PM on January 14.

The well-known referee to Vietnamese fans, Kim Jong Hyeok, will be the main official for the game. His assistants will be his compatriots Yoon Jae Yeol and Park Sang Jun. The fourth official is Mooud Bonyadifard from Iran. The VAR team will also include South Koreans Kim Hee Gon and Ko Hyung Jin.

Referee Kim Jong Hyeok is familiar to Vietnamese fans, often referred to as a “hot boy” for his handsome appearance and constant smile, even while issuing cards to players.

Kim Jong Hyeok has frequently officiated international matches involving Vietnamese football, starting from the 26th SEA Games in 2011. He also officiated the Ha Tinh vs HAGL match in the V-League 2022. Born in 1983, he has been a FIFA-recognized referee since 2009.
