The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has officially recognized and renamed the young team Quang Nam to University of Van Hien Football Club (FC) on February 26. This club will officially compete in the 2024 Second Division season.
University of Van Hien FC is led by key personnel who are former Dong Thap players. Notably, former national player, Tran Cong Minh, a famous left-back of Vietnamese football, will return to the field as the Technical Director.
Hoang Hai Duong serves as the head coach of University of Van Hien, with assistants Nguyen Anh Tong and Nguyen Van Ngan. The club will use Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City as their home ground for the upcoming matches.
According to Tuoi Tre, University of Van Hien FC had its first training session at Thanh Long Sports Center yesterday (February 26). In addition to having 11 old players from the Quang Nam youth team as per the transfer requirements, the club has been actively seeking players to fill the squad recently.
Technical Director Tran Cong Minh and coach Hoang Hai Duong have contacted many places like Tay Ninh, Dong Thap to bring in players. Additionally, student players from University of Van Hien were also given the opportunity to train and be selected for the 2024 Second Division.

University of Van Hien is one of three clubs transferred a slot to participate in the 2024 Second Division. Previously, Gia Dinh FC transferred its slot to Bac Ninh, and Gama Vinh Phuc transferred its slot to Tay Nguyen Gia Lai.
Bac Ninh is the most heavily invested team, signing several quality players and appointing former Vietnam national team coach Park Hang Seo as a senior advisor.
WHAT’S THE FUTURE?
The 2024 Second Division will feature 14 teams and will be played in a round-trip format, divided into two groups. The draw and schedule are expected to be held on February 28.
The emergence of a university football team in the national Second Division not only marks a new chapter for Vietnamese football but also creates opportunities for talents currently in university classrooms to showcase their abilities on the professional field.
