In her pursuit of a seeding spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Vietnam’s top female badminton player, Nguyen Thuy Linh, continues her quest for titles in Europe.
After being eliminated early in major tournaments in France and England over consecutive weeks, Vietnam’s leading badminton player, Nguyen Thuy Linh, is focusing on other, more manageable European competitions. This week, Thuy Linh will participate in the Swiss Open, a Super 300 event taking place from March 19 to 24.
In the Swiss tournament, Thuy Linh isn’t seeded but faces a less daunting bracket compared to her recent challenges in France and England. Her first-round opponent is determined to be the young player from Indonesia, Ester Wardoyo (world rank 37), born in 2005.
A victory would likely set Thuy Linh up against a familiar foe from regional and continental tournaments – Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, the world’s number 7 and the tournament’s second seed.
The top seed of the Swiss Open is Carolina Marin from Spain, who recently made it to the finals of the All England Open last week.
Currently, Thuy Linh is ranked 16th on the list of players qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Gaining additional points to move up to 14th place would potentially seed the Vietnamese player.
