Vietnam squad against Indonesia announced: Cong Phuong, Duy Manh absent.

At 19:30 on March 18, Coach Troussier announced the list of players who will join the match against the Indonesia national team via livestream.

Forward Nguyen Cong Phuong and defender Do Duy Manh were absent when Coach Philippe Troussier finalized the list of 28 players to face Indonesia in two matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Cong Phuong suffered an injury during a match with Yokohama FC’s reserve team on March 2 and had to train separately at the club before returning to Vietnam on March 11. When joining the national team in Hanoi on March 13, the forward born in 1985 trained normally. However, on March 16, he had a recurrence of the injury and had to stop training. Currently, Cong Phuong has just returned to light training, but based on the assessment of the team’s doctor, Troussier decided not to use Cong Phuong to avoid the risk of further injury.

Duy Manh suffered a thigh muscle strain after playing continuously for Hanoi FC. He faced the risk of a muscle tear if he continued to play at a high intensity. This morning, March 18, the center-back born in 1996 had a private meeting with Coach Troussier to discuss the injury and voluntarily withdrew to have more time for rest and recovery.

Alongside Duy Manh and Cong Phuong, Coach Troussier also excluded three more players, including defenders Giap Tuan Duong, Truong Tien Anh, and midfielder Nguyen Hai Long. Meanwhile, newcomer Tran Ngoc Son was retained.

The national team roster includes three goalkeepers, nine defenders, 11 midfielders, and five forwards. The Cong and Hanoi Police FC contribute the most players with seven names each. Following are Hanoi (four players), Hai Phong, Binh Duong, Nam Dinh (2), SLNA, Binh Dinh, Thanh Hoa, and Quang Nam (1).

The oldest player in the list is goalkeeper Nguyen Dinh Trieu, born in 1991. Forward Nguyen Dinh Bac, born in 2004, is the youngest team member. The team has 12 players born from 1999 onwards.

The Vietnam national team has been in training since March 13, spending a week at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. Coach Troussier mainly used the time to assess the players’ form and health and started tactical training on March 16.

Tomorrow morning, March 19, the Vietnam team will depart for Indonesia. The team will have two training sessions before playing against the host team on the evening of March 21 in the capital, Jakarta. Then, the team will return home to train and prepare for the second leg on March 26 at My Dinh Stadium. Before each match, Coach Troussier selects an official roster of 23 players to participate.
