Coach Shin Tae Yong expresses confidence that the upcoming match on March 26th presents an ideal opportunity for Indonesian football to “break the spell” of defeats when playing away in Vietnam.
Historically, the Indonesian national team has not secured a win at My Dinh Stadium for 20 years since their 3-0 victory against Vietnam during the AFF Cup 2004 group stage. Coach Shin Tae Yong himself has experienced two losses in Vietnam: a 0-3 defeat with Indonesia U23 against Vietnam U23 in the SEA Games 31 group stage, and a 0-2 loss with the Indonesian national team against Vietnam in the second leg of the AFF Cup 2022 semi-finals.
However, Shin Tae Yong remains optimistic about breaking the losing streak in Vietnam, especially given Indonesia’s recent victories over Vietnam, both with a 0-1 scoreline, at the Asian Cup 2023 and in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
“We’ve prepared to perform well tomorrow. It will be a challenging match, but I believe this could be the chance for the Indonesian team to win on Vietnam’s home ground,” stated Shin Tae Yong.
The Indonesian national team coach emphasized his players’ increased international experience compared to previous visits to Vietnam, along with the reinforcement of naturalized players.
“In the past, we lost because many players were young and lacked experience. Now, the situation is different. My players have more experience. The two recent victories over Vietnam prove that. We’re confident we’ll put on another good performance and achieve a favorable result,” Shin Tae Yong affirmed.
The match between the Vietnamese and Indonesian national teams is scheduled for 7:00 PM on March 26th at My Dinh Stadium. Coach Shin Tae Yong declared this match as the most important for the Indonesian national team in 2024.
