The 2024 National Second Division Football League in Vietnam officially kicked off on the afternoon of March 28, with the first round of matches for Groups A and B. The opening ceremony at the stadium promised an exciting race for the two promotion spots to the First Division League 2024/25.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Chau, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Head of the tournament’s organizing committee, expressed confidence in the league’s organization and the close cooperation of participating clubs. He believed that this year’s National Second Division, with a home-and-away round-robin format to determine two teams for promotion, would continue to attract significant attention from fans. It aims to showcase the technical progress of the matches, creating a competitive environment that contributes to the overall development of Vietnamese football.
The opening matches saw a notable goalless draw between Hanoi’s youth team and PVF in Group A. Other matches in Group A favored the higher-rated teams, with Dak Lak securing a dominant 4-0 victory over Tay Nguyen Gia Lai and SHB Da Nang’s youth team narrowly winning 0-1 against Kon Tum.
In Group B, An Giang was the only team to earn a full three points on the first day, with a 2-1 win over Vinh Long. The other matches ended in draws, with Lam Dong drawing 2-2 against Ho Chi Minh City’s youth team, and Dai Hoc Van Hien tying 0-0 with Phu Nhuan.
The second round of the National Second Division is scheduled to continue on April 2.
