Vietnamese Futsal shares points in the opening match of the 2024 International Friendly Tournament

In their first match of the 2024 International Futsal Friendly Tournament, the Vietnam national futsal team drew 2-2 against New Zealand. This tournament serves as a warm-up for Vietnam’s campaign at the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2024. Coach Diego Giustozzi Raul utilized this opportunity to test new players in the starting lineup, including Hữu Phúc as the goalkeeper, alongside Anh Duy, Minh Quang, and Đoan Phat.

Playing with the enthusiastic support of the home crowd, Vietnam started the game confidently, creating early chances. Văn Tiến broke the deadlock in the 9th minute with a well-executed turn and left-footed shot. However, a subsequent shift in lineup caused a momentary defensive lapse, allowing Rahan Ali to equalize for New Zealand.

Vietnam regained the lead with a goal from Thai Huy, set up by Đức Hoà’s precise assist. The second half saw New Zealand pulling back to a 2-2 draw, thanks to another goal from Rahan Ali. Despite Vietnam’s efforts and a switch to a power-play strategy in the final minutes, the game ended in a draw.

Vietnam will face a tough opponent in Marocco on March 30, following Marocco’s impressive 5-4 victory over Iran. This match presents an opportunity for Vietnam to test their mettle against a strong team and fine-tune their strategies ahead of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2024.
