AFC announces the referee for the U23 Vietnam – U23 Iraq match

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced the appointment of South Korean referee Ko Hyung Jin as the main official for the upcoming quarterfinal match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Iraq in the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup.

Joining referee Ko Hyung Jin on the field will be assistant referees Bang Gi Yeol from South Korea and Alrefaei Hesham Mohammed from Saudi Arabia. The fourth official will be Majed Mohammed Alshamrani, also from Saudi Arabia, while the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) room will be managed by Ahmed Eisa Mohamed Darwish from the UAE.

Ko Hyung Jin is no stranger to managing high-pressure games involving Vietnamese teams. He previously officiated the 2022 AFF Cup final first leg between Vietnam and Thailand at My Dinh Stadium. Additionally, in 2022, he was invited to oversee a match in Vietnam’s V-League, further showcasing his experience and familiarity with Vietnamese football.

This assignment marks the second consecutive match for U23 Vietnam at the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup to be officiated by a South Korean referee. Previously, Kim Woo Sung was in charge of Vietnam’s group stage clash against U23 Uzbekistan.

The choice of experienced referees for U23 Vietnam’s matches underscores the importance AFC places on ensuring fair play and the highest officiating standards at key tournament matches. The upcoming quarterfinal is pivotal for U23 Vietnam as they aim to continue their impressive run in the tournament and secure a spot in the semifinals.

U23 Vietnam’s match against U23 Iraq is scheduled to take place at 8:30 PM local time, promising to be a thrilling encounter as both teams vie for a coveted place in the semifinals of the prestigious continental tournament. Fans of both teams and football enthusiasts will be eagerly watching as the young talents from Vietnam and Iraq battle it out on the field under the expert supervision of Ko Hyung Jin and his team.
