The Cong Viettel secures victory in penalty shootout after tense quarterfinal match against PVF-CAND

The Cong Viettel drew 2-2 with PVF CAND despite being a man down during the quarterfinal match of the 2023/2024 Casper National Cup. However, they secured a thrilling 5-3 victory in the penalty shootout.

The match began with a solid attack from The Cong Viettel, leading to a goal in the 15th minute. Truong Tien Anh’s assist set up Nguyen Huu Thang to fire a shot into the net, putting The Cong Viettel in the lead. However, the home team struggled to dominate the game against their lower-tier opponents.

In the second half, PVF CAND equalized with a stunning free-kick from Nguyen Thanh Nhan. This was followed by a setback for The Cong Viettel when Nguyen Duc Chien received his second yellow card, leaving the team a man down.

Despite being short-handed, The Cong Viettel regained the lead 2-1 with a powerful strike from Truong Tien Anh in the 81st minute. However, PVF CAND quickly leveled the score again thanks to a fortunate goal from Hieu Minh.

With the score tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes of regular play, the match went into a penalty shootout. The Cong Viettel demonstrated greater composure, securing a 5-3 victory on penalties, thereby advancing to the semifinals of the Casper National Cup 2023/2024, where they will face Hanoi FC.
