In a move aimed at strengthening the national youth teams, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has appointed Hua Hien Vinh as the head coach of the U19 Vietnam team. Coach Hua Hien Vinh will lead the team in the upcoming 2024 AFF U19 Championship and the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup Qualifiers.
Coach Hua Hien Vinh signed a long-term contract with VFF in November 2023. His primary responsibility is to participate in the selection and training of the national youth teams. Hua Hien Vinh is highly regarded for his extensive experience in developing young talents, having worked for many years at Pho Hien FC (now PVF CAND) and the PVF Youth Football Training Center. He was a key assistant to head coach Hoang Anh Tuan during the U23 Southeast Asian Championship 2023, contributing significantly to Vietnam’s championship win. Following that success, he also served in the coaching staff of the Vietnam Olympic team at the 19th Asian Games and played an essential role in the U23 Vietnam team’s quarterfinal run at the 2023 AFC U23 Championship.
The U19 Vietnam team is scheduled to assemble on May 16 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, with approximately 30 players called up for the training camp. This gathering marks the first phase of preparation for the 2024 AFF U19 Championship, set to take place in Indonesia from July 17 to July 29, followed by the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup Qualifiers in late September.
During this training period, Hua Hien Vinh and his team will participate in the U19 International Football Tournament organized by the Chinese Football Association from June 2 to June 12. The tournament will feature U19 teams from China, Uzbekistan, and South Korea, providing valuable international exposure for the young Vietnamese players.
The appointment of Hua Hien Vinh is a strategic move by VFF to ensure the development and success of Vietnam’s future football talents, building on his proven track record and commitment to nurturing young players. The U19 Vietnam team is expected to benefit significantly from his expertise as they prepare for critical regional and continental competitions.
