Vietnam Taekwondo won the gold medal at the 2024 Asian Championships

In a stunning performance on May 15, the Vietnamese trio of Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, and Lien Thi Tuyet Mai clinched the gold medal in the women’s over-30 team standard poomsae category at the 2024 Asian Taekwondo Championship. The event, held at Tien Son Sports Arena in Da Nang, witnessed the Vietnamese team outperforming India in the final round to secure the highest score.

In the first poomsae routine, the Vietnamese athletes scored 8.066 points, followed by 8.032 points in the second routine. The combined score of 16.098 points earned Chau Tuyet Van (Ho Chi Minh City), Nguyen Thi Le Kim (Binh Thuan), and Lien Thi Tuyet Mai (Ho Chi Minh City) their first gold medal at this championship.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for Vietnam’s taekwondo team at the 2024 Asian Taekwondo Championship. In 2022, Chau Tuyet Van and her teammates only managed to secure a bronze medal, with no silver medals for the team. The 2024 victory is a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Earlier on the same day, the Vietnamese team added a silver medal in the men’s over-30 team standard poomsae category, thanks to the efforts of Nguyen Dinh Toan (Hanoi), Nguyen Van Truong (Hanoi), and Vu Thanh Duong (Hai Phong).

In the mixed pair category, Nguyen Thien Phung (Ho Chi Minh City) and Nguyen Thi Le Kim (Binh Thuan) contributed a bronze medal to the host nation’s tally, rounding off a successful morning for Vietnam on the second day of competition.

On the first day of the championship, May 14, the Vietnamese taekwondo team secured two bronze medals. These were in the mixed pair standard poomsae category, won by Nguyen Trong Phuc (An Giang) and Mai Thi Hong Nhung (Military), and in the women’s team standard poomsae category, won by Nguyen Thi Kim Ha (Binh Thuan), Le Tran Kim Uyen (An Giang), and Le Ngoc Han (Vinh Long).

The 2024 Asian Taekwondo Championship officially opens on May 16 at the Tien Son Sports Arena in Da Nang. The Vietnamese team’s early successes set a promising tone for the rest of the competition, highlighting their prowess and potential in the sport.
