Badminton star Nguyen Thuy Linh is putting in extra effort to boost her rankings and keep her hopes alive for a seeded spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Currently competing for Dong Nai in the 2024 National Team Badminton Championship, she is just one match away from securing the title against Ho Chi Minh City.
Following this national event, Thuy Linh will participate in four major international tournaments: the Malaysia Masters (BWF World Tour Super 500), the Singapore Open (BWF World Tour Super 750), the Indonesia Open (BWF World Tour Super 1000). These high-level tournaments offer significant ranking points, providing the top Vietnamese female badminton player a crucial opportunity to break into the top 14 seeds for the Olympics.
Accompanying her in these international competitions is Indonesian coach Hariawan. This reunion is essential for Thuy Linh, ensuring she has strong support and motivation as she competes on the global stage.
In an interview, Nguyen Thuy Linh discussed her current form and preparation for the Olympics: “Mentally, I feel much better. Physically, my strength and speed have improved significantly. Now, I need to maintain my health because the Olympics are just two months away.”
After a long series of international matches, Thuy Linh has shown her dominance in domestic competitions, easily defeating local opponents. Despite the fatigue from continuous international play, her superior skills are evident.
Discussing her goals at the National Team Badminton Championship, Thuy Linh said, “Competing has taken a toll on my body, so participating in domestic tournaments is a chance to change the training environment and review my performance to prepare better for the Olympics.”
Thuy Linh has made history by becoming the first Vietnamese female badminton player to qualify for the Olympics twice consecutively (2020 and 2024). With the Paris 2024 Olympics approaching in two months, she needs to prepare both mentally and physically to achieve the best possible results on this prestigious stage.
