The organizers have announced that VAR (Video Assistant Referee) technology will be used in two pivotal matches of Round 20 in the V-League 2023/2024 season. This round is set to take place over two days, May 21 and 22, and features several highly anticipated and crucial fixtures in both the title race and the relegation battle.
According to the announcement, VAR will be applied in the matches between Hanoi FC vs. Thanh Hoa at Hang Day Stadium and Nam Dinh vs. Hai Phong at Thien Truong Stadium. These matches are considered the highlights of Round 20, drawing significant attention from fans and pundits alike.
The match between Nam Dinh and Hai Phong is particularly critical. If the home team, Nam Dinh, fails to secure a victory against Chu Dinh Nghiem’s squad, they risk being overtaken by Binh Duong, which could close the gap in the standings.
The decision to apply VAR in only two matches of Round 20 stems from logistical constraints. Ha Tinh and SLNA are playing away games this round, and with only two VAR-equipped vans available, the technology is prioritized for the top-billed matches in the northern region. As previously announced at the beginning of the season, VAR is implemented in matches from Ha Tinh northward, with a maximum of four matches per round utilizing the technology.
