Vietnam women’s 4x400m relay team delivered an outstanding performance at the 2024 Asian Relay Championships, breaking the national record and securing a gold medal. The team, composed of Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Quach Thi Lan, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh, and Nguyen Thi Hang, finished first with a time of 3 minutes 30.81 seconds, surpassing the previous national record of 3 minutes 31.46 seconds set in 2015.
The race, held at a prestigious international athletics event, showcased the exceptional talent and determination of the Vietnamese athletes. Their remarkable time, while a significant achievement, unfortunately falls short of qualifying for the top 16 teams for the Olympics, where the qualifying time is 3 minutes 27.29 seconds.
Nguyen Thi Ngoc, who started the relay, set a strong pace, handing over to Quach Thi Lan who maintained the momentum. Hoang Thi Minh Hanh’s impressive third leg kept the team in contention, and Nguyen Thi Hang anchored the team to a historic finish. This collective effort not only earned them the gold medal but also highlighted the progress and potential of Vietnam’s athletics on the international stage.
The victory at the Asian Relay Championships is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the athletes and their coaching staff. It reflects the significant strides that Vietnamese athletics has made in recent years, supported by improved training programs and increased investment in sports infrastructure.
Coach Nguyen Dinh Bac expressed his pride in the team’s performance, stating, “This achievement is a result of the relentless effort and commitment of our athletes. Breaking the national record and winning gold at such a prestigious event is a milestone for Vietnamese athletics.”
Despite the gap to the Olympic qualifying time, the team’s performance is a positive indicator of their potential. With continued focus on training and development, there is hope that they will close the gap and compete at the highest levels, including future Olympic Games.
The success of the women’s 4x400m relay team at the Asian Relay Championships has not only brought pride to Vietnam but also inspired young athletes across the country to pursue excellence in athletics. As the team returns home with their gold medals, they are celebrated as national heroes and role models for the next generation of Vietnamese athletes.
This victory serves as a foundation for future successes, and the team remains determined to achieve their Olympic dreams in the years to come.
