In a surprising turn of events, both Nam Dinh and Binh Dinh, the remaining teams in the top four, suffered defeats today, causing a slowdown in the V-League 2023-2024 championship race.
Yesterday, Binh Duong lost to Quang Nam and Hanoi Police FC was defeated by Ho Chi Minh FC, both with a score of 1-2. Today, despite having the home advantage, Nam Dinh and Binh Dinh failed to capitalize on their opportunities, losing to Hai Phong and Song Lam Nghe An respectively.
These results leave the top four teams in the same positions. Nam Dinh still leads with 39 points, maintaining a six-point lead over Binh Duong. Binh Dinh and Hanoi Police FC are both tied at 31 points. Meanwhile, Hanoi FC and Hai Phong have closed the gap with 30 and 29 points respectively, intensifying the competition at the top.
At Thien Truong Stadium, Nam Dinh conceded four goals within 52 minutes. Despite their efforts, they only managed to score two consolation goals, both by Rafaelson.
Over at Quy Nhon Stadium, Binh Dinh disappointed their fans by losing to the second-to-last team in the standings. Missing key players—central defender Marlon Rangel due to suspension, and forward Leonardo Artur and central defender Dinh Trong due to injuries—Binh Dinh struggled. In the 6th minute, Le Dinh Long Vu crossed from the right, allowing Michael Olaha to head the ball into the left corner. Binh Dinh kept their composure and equalized in the 18th minute with Alan Sebastiao scoring after a save by goalkeeper Van Viet.
However, defensive errors plagued Binh Dinh again 10 minutes later. During an aerial duel from a left-wing cross, two Binh Dinh players collided, allowing Le Dinh Long Vu to capitalize. The ball rebounded to Quang Vinh, who scored to put Song Lam Nghe An ahead 2-1.
Unable to find the net again, Binh Dinh’s eight-match unbeaten streak ended. Song Lam Nghe An’s victory gave them 22 points, distancing themselves by 12 points from the last-placed Khanh Hoa, who lost 0-1 to The Cong in a concurrent match. Song Lam Nghe An now trails Ha Tinh and LP Bank Hoang Anh Gia Lai by two and three points respectively.
These outcomes have significantly tightened the V.League 1 – 2023/2024 standings, creating a more thrilling championship race. As the season progresses, every match will be critical for the teams vying for the title, promising more excitement and drama for football fans.
