U17 Vietnam faces tough group in AFC U17 Asian Cup 2025 qualifiers

The draw for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2025 qualifiers took place on the afternoon of June 13, placing Vietnam U17 in a challenging group despite hosting the matches at home.

According to the draw, Vietnam U17 is in Group I, alongside Yemen, Kyrgyzstan, and Myanmar. This group presents a mix of competition levels, offering no clear favorites but also no significantly weaker teams, making it a balanced yet demanding challenge for coach Tran Minh Chien and his squad. Each match will require strategic planning and strong performances to secure wins, as there is no room for easy victories to boost goal differences.

Vietnam U17 will host the group matches from October 19 to 27, 2024. The group winners will automatically qualify for the final tournament, while the runners-up will need to compare their results with other second-placed teams across different groups to vie for one of the final spots in the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2025 in Saudi Arabia.

A total of 43 teams will compete in the qualifiers, divided into 10 groups—seven groups of four teams and three groups of five teams. The 10 group winners and the five best second-placed teams will join host Saudi Arabia in the final tournament.

The AFC U17 Asian Cup 2025 serves as the qualifying event for the U17 World Cup 2025. The top eight teams from the quarterfinals of the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2025, along with Qatar, will earn their spots in the U17 World Cup 2025.

Coach Tran Minh Chien and his team will need to prepare thoroughly for this crucial phase, as the performance in the qualifiers will significantly impact their journey towards the prestigious U17 World Cup. The home advantage might provide a slight edge, but the team will need to leverage every opportunity and play to their strengths to ensure progression in this competitive setup.
