On the morning of June 13, the Vietnam national football team arrived at Noi Bai international airport, Hanoi, concluding their journey for the June 2024 FIFA Days. Most players will now return to their respective clubs to prepare for V-League matches scheduled for this weekend.
The team traveled from Basra, Iraq, with a layover in Doha, Qatar, before arriving in Hanoi. This marks the end of their campaign in the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. Despite not progressing further, the team remains optimistic, focusing on positive signals and preparing for future challenges, including the ASEAN Cup set to kick off at the end of the year. To gear up for this tournament, Coach Kim Sang Sik’s squad will regroup and participate in international friendlies during the FIFA Days in September, October, and November.
Reflecting on his performance, forward Pham Tuan Hai shared: “The goal against the Philippines was a typical play for me. When I see my teammate taking a shot, I position myself to capitalize on any rebounds or close-range opportunities. The goal against Iraq, however, was a spontaneous and bold strike. I didn’t expect it to result in a goal.”
At Noi Bai international airport, national team players bid farewell to Coach Kim Sang Sik and the coaching staff before heading back to their clubs for the 23rd round of Night Wolf V.League 1 – 2023/2024. This period is crucial for the national league, with teams vying for the championship and fighting to avoid relegation.
The players’ return to their clubs marks a significant phase as they balance club commitments with national team duties, all while keeping an eye on the upcoming ASEAN Cup. The dedication and hard work displayed during the World Cup qualifiers will serve as a foundation for future successes on the regional stage.
