The draw for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup Qualifiers has placed Vietnam in a relatively easy group, promising a smooth path forward for the team.
Despite being eliminated in the group stage of the 2023 AFC U20 Asian Cup, Vietnam remains a top-seeded team for the 2025 qualifiers. This advantageous position has given coach Hua Hien Vinh and his squad a favorable draw, facing teams perceived to be significantly weaker.
Specifically, the draw on June 13 placed U20 Vietnam in Group A, alongside Syria, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Guam. Among these teams, only Syria is considered to be on par with U20 Vietnam. Coach Hua Hien Vinh’s team will play their matches on home turf, with the venue to be announced by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) soon.
The group winners will directly qualify for the final tournament, while the runners-up will need to compare results with other second-placed teams to secure the remaining spots for the finals in China in 2025.
The 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup Qualifiers will feature 45 teams divided into five groups of five teams and five groups of four teams. The ten group winners and the five best runners-up will join host China in the final tournament. The qualifiers will take place from September 21 to 29, 2024.
The 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup will serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2025 U20 World Cup in Chile. The top four teams from the AFC U20 Asian Cup will earn the right to compete on the world stage in South America.
This favorable draw boosts the confidence of the U20 Vietnam team, as they prepare to embark on their journey towards qualifying for the prestigious tournament.
