BREAKING: Quang Hai to extend contract with Hanoi Police FC

Midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai will continue to play for the Hanoi Police FC after agreeing to extend his current contract, which is set to expire soon.

Hanoi Police FC announced this news on the evening of June 19. However, the recently dethroned V-League champions stated that they could not yet disclose the contract duration or the signing bonus as further negotiations are needed.

Quang Hai’s current contract is set to expire on June 30, when the Night Wolf V.League 1 – 2023/2024 season ends. His representative recently mentioned that several foreign clubs are interested in him and that “renewing the contract with Quang Hai is not Hanoi Police FC’s top priority.”

Quang Hai moved to France to play for Pau FC in Ligue 2 at the end of June 2022. However, after a year of struggling to secure a starting position, he requested an early termination of his contract and returned to Vietnam to join Hanoi Police FC. He then helped the team win the V.League 1 2023 title.

Quang Hai recently got married and is expecting his first child. This personal development may have influenced his decision to continue playing in Vietnam.

Quang Hai and Hanoi Police FC are currently experiencing a challenging period. The Hanoi-based team has gone through a series of coaching changes, from Kiatisk Senamuang to Tran Tien Dai and Mano Polking, but still ended up losing their V-League title. The team is currently on a five-match losing streak and is fighting to avoid the play-off to retain their league status.

Born in 1997, Quang Hai has won every domestic title with Hanoi FC before moving to Pau FC and then Hanoi Police FC. He is also a star player for the national teams, having participated in the U20 FIFA World Cup, finished as the runner-up in the 2018 AFC U23 Championship, won the 2018 AFF Cup, and secured a gold medal at the 2019 SEA Games. Quang Hai was also awarded the Vietnamese Golden Ball in 2018.
