One of the issues of great interest to the audience is the rewards Vietnamese athletes will receive if they achieve high results at the 2024 Olympics.
Government Incentives
According to Government Decree No. 152/2018/ND-CP, Vietnamese athletes who win a gold medal at the Olympics will receive a reward of 350 million VND. If they break a record, they will receive an additional 140 million VND, totaling 490 million VND. Athletes who win a silver medal will be awarded 220 million VND, and those who win a bronze medal will receive 140 million VND.
Additional Rewards from Sponsors and Organizations
Apart from the government rewards, Vietnamese athletes will also benefit from bonuses from various units and sponsors. At the beginning of 2023, the Vietnam Olympic Committee announced a collaboration with the International Sports Strategy Fund (ISF) and signed a partnership agreement with Asong Invest Co., Ltd. to sponsor rewards for Vietnamese athletes achieving results at the 2024 Olympics.
Asong Invest Co., Ltd., ISF’s strategic partner, has committed to rewarding Vietnamese athletes with the following amounts:
- Gold Medal: $1 million (approx. 23 billion VND)
- Silver Medal: $500,000 (approx. 11.5 billion VND)
- Bronze Medal: $200,000 (approx. 4.6 billion VND)
Specific Sports Federations’ Rewards
Several sports federations have also announced bonuses for athletes participating in the 2024 Olympics. The Vietnam Shooting Federation has pledged to reward 500 million VND for a gold medal, 300 million VND for a silver medal, and 200 million VND for a bronze medal. Previously, this federation awarded 100 million VND to the Vietnam shooting team, 20 million VND to shooter Le Thi Mong Tuyen for securing an official spot at the Paris Olympics, and 10 million VND to coach Nguyen Duy Hoang for directly training Tuyen. Shooter Trinh Thu Vinh will receive similar rewards for her Olympic qualification.
Additionally, TCL Vietnam Electronics Co., Ltd. has offered the following rewards for shooting athletes:
- Gold Medal: A TCL 115 Inch X955 TV worth approx. 700 million VND
- Silver Medal: A TCL 98 Inch C855 TV worth nearly 110 million VND
- Bronze Medal: A TCL 85 Inch C755 TV worth 50 million VND
Former head coach of the Vietnam shooting team, Nguyen Thi Nhung, has also promised a reward of $1,000 for each event finalist in shooting. To further motivate the team, former Secretary General of the Vietnam Shooting Federation, Nguyen Thi Nhung, who coached Olympic champion Hoang Xuan Vinh, has decided to sponsor $1,000 for Korean expert Park Chung-gun and $1,000 for the shooting team to support their training trip to Korea ahead of the Olympics.
The Vietnam Boxing Federation has announced rewards for two athletes, Ha Thi Linh and Vo Thi Kim Anh:
- Gold Medal: 500 million VND
- Silver Medal: 350 million VND
- Bronze Medal: 200 million VND
These significant financial incentives and rewards reflect the strong support and encouragement for Vietnamese athletes as they prepare to compete on the world stage at the 2024 Olympics.
