U19 Vietnam finds it difficult to dream of a miracle at the ASEAN U19 championship 2024

U19 Vietnam’s hopes of making it to the semifinals of the U19 Southeast Asian Championship 2024 have dimmed after securing only 1 point from their first two matches.

Expectations were high for U19 Vietnam to advance to the semifinals, but coach Hua Hien Vinh’s squad has underperformed. In their opening match, U19 Vietnam managed to salvage a draw against U19 Myanmar.

In the second match, U19 Vietnam faced U19 Australia with the pressure to win in order to keep control of their destiny. However, the team once again fell short, suffering a heavy defeat with a scoreline of 2-6.

After two rounds, U19 Vietnam has only 1 point. The maximum number of points they can accumulate is 4, which makes it difficult for them to advance as the best second-placed team. In Group C, U19 Thailand and U19 Malaysia both have 3 points from their first match.

Today, on July 22, U19 Thailand and U19 Malaysia will play against U19 Brunei and U19 Singapore, respectively. If both U19 Thailand and U19 Malaysia win, they will each have 6 points, effectively eliminating U19 Vietnam from the tournament. This scenario is highly likely, hence the grim outlook for U19 Vietnam’s chances of advancing.

Despite the team’s efforts and the initial expectations, U19 Vietnam’s journey in the U19 Southeast Asian Championship 2024 seems to be nearing an early conclusion. The team will need an extraordinary turn of events to continue in the competition.
