On August 8, Vietnam’s sporting hopes at the Paris Olympics rest solely on the shoulders of Nguyen Thi Huong, who will compete in the women’s C1 200m canoeing event. Nguyen Thi Huong is set to participate in the preliminary round at 10:30 AM local time. The event features 33 athletes divided into five heats. Nguyen Thi Huong will race in the fourth heat, competing against paddlers from Spain, Ukraine, Canada, France, and Hungary. According to the regulations, the top two finishers from each heat will advance to the semifinals, while the remaining athletes will continue to compete for a spot in the next round.
This marks the first time Vietnam has officially secured a spot in canoeing at the Paris Olympics. Nguyen Thi Huong has undergone rigorous training in recent days upon her arrival in Paris. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Harrison won the gold medal with a time of 45.932 seconds.
Nguyen Thi Huong previously competed in the women’s C1 200m event at the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD 19) held last year in Hangzhou, China, where she reached the finals. She finished fifth with a time of 49.621 seconds.
