The U23 Vietnam national football team is set to compete in a friendly tournament in China in September 2024. This period coincides with the senior Vietnam national team’s schedule, where they will face Thailand and Russia. As a result, head coach Kim Sang Sik has entrusted his assistant, Dinh Hong Vinh, with the role of acting head coach for the U23 Vietnam team.
Dinh Hong Vinh is well-regarded for his extensive experience in youth development, having previously led the U16 and U19 Vietnam teams to bronze medals at the Southeast Asian Championships in 2007 and 2009. His contributions were also recognized by head coach Hoang Anh Tuan during Vietnam’s successful campaign to qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup in 2017.
The U23 Vietnam squad will regroup on August 30. The team will primarily consist of players who participated in the recent training sessions, including notable names such as goalkeeper Cao Van Binh, defender Nguyen Duc Anh, midfielders Khuat Van Khang and Nguyen Thai Son, and forwards Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Nguyen Quoc Viet, and Nguyen Dinh Bac. These players, all born in 2003 or later, are being groomed for future competitions, including the 33rd SEA Games and the 2026 Asian Games (ASIAD).
The coaching staff for the U23 team, in addition to acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh, will include assistants Nam Kung Do (South Korea), Phan Nhu Thuat, goalkeeping coach Tran Minh Quang, and fitness coach Brandi Regato Neto Jose (Brazil).
The U23 CFA Team China 2024 International Friendly Tournament is scheduled to take place from September 2 to September 10 in Hunan Province, China. The tournament will feature four teams: China, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, and Malaysia.
This tournament will be a valuable opportunity for U23 Vietnam to test their skills against strong regional opponents, providing a critical platform for young players to gain experience and develop ahead of future international competitions.
