Becamex Binh Duong introduces Neymar’s former teammate

Binh Duong announced the signing of Brazilian forward Wellington Nem on the morning of September 8. The former Brazil national team player has previously played for several top clubs around the world.

Nem, born in 1992, developed through the renowned Fluminense academy in Brazil. He made his first-team debut in 2011 and played 51 matches for the club until 2013. Following his time at Fluminense, he moved to Ukrainian powerhouse Shakhtar Donetsk, where he scored nine goals in 47 matches between 2013 and 2020.

The 32-year-old striker then returned to Brazil to play for Fortaleza and Cruzeiro before moving to Portugal to join Arouca in 2022. Subsequently, Nem had stints with Vitoria in Brazil and Kisvarda in Hungary before signing with Binh Duong.

Wellington Nem (number 17) plays for the Brazil national team.

At the peak of his career, Wellington Nem played alongside Neymar for both Brazil’s U17 team and the national squad. He appeared three times for Brazil’s U17 team, scoring one goal. Under head coach Mano Menezes, Nem earned three caps for the senior Brazil team in 2012.

Despite standing at just 1.65 meters tall, Nem is known for his technical skills and pace. He is currently valued at 400,000 euros (approximately 11 billion VND), according to transfermarkt. With his experience in Brazil and Europe, Nem is expected to provide valuable support for Nguyen Tien Linh in Binh Duong’s attack.

In addition to Nem, Binh Duong has secured two other foreign players: center-back Janclesio Almeida Santos and midfielder Odilzhon Abdurakhmanov, who is currently representing Kyrgyzstan in the third round of Asian World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

This season, Binh Duong has undergone significant changes, including appointing head coach Hoang Anh Tuan, who has had notable success with Vietnam’s youth teams. The club has also added several star players, such as Ho Tan Tai, Ngo Tung Quoc, Nghiem Xuan Tu, Ha Duc Chinh, and Nguyen Thanh Nhan, alongside experienced veterans like Que Ngoc Hai, Nguyen Tien Linh, Nguyen Hai Huy, Bui Vi Hao, Nguyen Minh Trong, and Tran Dinh Khuong. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan aims to bring back Binh Duong’s past glory, with aspirations to recapture titles such as the four-time V-League championship they once held.

Binh Duong will kick off their V-League 2024-2025 campaign with an away match against Thanh Hoa on September 14.
