Coach Mai Duc Chung highlights key successes of Vietnam women’s team after European tour

In preparation for the important competitions in 2025, the Vietnam women’s national football team recently completed a training camp in the Czech Republic. Under the guidance of Coach Mai Duc Chung, the team played three friendly matches against strong European clubs, yielding promising results.

Vietnam first faced RB Leipzig from Germany, losing 0-2 in a tough match. However, they rebounded strongly, defeating FK Pardubice 6-0 and Viktoria Plzen 3-0, both from the Czech Republic.

Reflecting on the tour, Coach Mai Duc Chung acknowledged the challenges of the first match, pointing out that RB Leipzig was a formidable opponent. He noted that the team struggled to adapt to the playing conditions, resulting in a lack of cohesion in their performance. “RB Leipzig is a very strong team, and we weren’t yet accustomed to the conditions, which led to some coordination issues,” he explained.

In the following two matches, the coaching staff made several adjustments, providing opportunities for different players to showcase their abilities. These changes paid off, with the team delivering convincing performances in both victories.

However, Coach Chung highlighted that the greatest success of the tour was not the scores, but the tactical growth of the team. “I am most satisfied with the way we played in the last match. It’s not about the result, but about how the team played. The players utilized their strengths, as well as the characteristics of Vietnamese football, such as ground passing and quick combinations, to compete against taller and more physically imposing opponents,” he remarked.

He also praised the team’s confidence in taking long-range shots, which resulted in some impressive goals. “I was particularly pleased with the long-range strikes that came from excellent teamwork,” he added.

Coach Chung further emphasized the physical improvements made during the tour, noting that the players’ fitness levels and team chemistry had improved significantly. He was also impressed with how the younger players integrated into the squad, showing strong adaptability and cohesion with the more experienced members.

Despite these achievements, Coach Chung recognized that there are still areas for improvement. The team needs to refine their ball-handling skills, passing accuracy, and decision-making on the field, particularly in terms of vision and awareness during play.

The European training camp provided valuable experience for the Vietnam women’s national team, helping them prepare for the challenges ahead in 2025. With further development, the team is poised to continue building on their progress and aiming for greater success in the future.
