This afternoon (October 9), the Vietnam women’s national football team held their first training session at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center to prepare for the upcoming friendly tournament in China.
Discussing the team’s plans, head coach Mai Duc Chung stated: “We have a lot of young faces in the squad, and they are being called up to prepare for the important tournaments in 2025. We will arrange for these younger players to have opportunities to learn, improve, and contribute alongside their senior teammates when they’re in good form.”
“The race to qualify for the World Cup is incredibly tough, and the upcoming tournaments won’t be easy either. Vietnam’s direct rivals in women’s football are heavily investing, even within Southeast Asia. The Philippines and Singapore are naturalizing players, and Thailand is hosting the SEA Games.
In Asia, aside from Japan, South Korea, China, and Australia, we now face competition from North Korea, Uzbekistan, and Iran. The Vietnam women’s team needs this young generation to play alongside their seniors to improve our achievements,” added coach Mai Duc Chung.
At the upcoming friendly tournament, Vietnam will face host nation China on October 23 and Uzbekistan on October 29. Coach Chung commented: “Uzbekistan’s women’s football team has made significant progress; they are tall, strong, and physically fit. These upcoming matches will give the Vietnamese players valuable experience and help them learn what they need to improve for next year, with three major tournaments, including the 2026 Asian Cup qualifiers, the 2025 ASEAN Women’s Football Championship, and the 33rd SEA Games.”
The Vietnam women’s team will train for nearly two weeks at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center before departing for China on October 21.
