Possible opponent of Ho Chi Minh women’s FC in the next round of AFC women’s Champions League

Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Football Club has earned a spot in the seeded group for the quarterfinals of the AFC Women’s Champions League 2024/2025, setting the stage for a potential matchup against one of the three teams in the unseeded group.

In their first-ever appearance at the AFC Women’s Champions League, CLB TP Ho Chi Minh impressed with their strong performance, finishing second in their group, which secured them a place in the quarterfinals. With two victories, the team boasted the best record among all second-placed teams, earning a spot in the seeded group alongside three group winners for the upcoming quarterfinal draw.

Joining Ho Chi Minh women’s FC in the seeded group are Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan), Melbourne City (Australia), and Incheon Red Angels (South Korea).

The unseeded group consists of two other second-placed teams and two third-placed teams with the best results: Abu Dhabi Country Club (UAE), Bam Khatoon (Iran), Wuhan Jiangda (China), and Taichung Blue Whale (Taiwan).

According to the AFC format, teams from the seeded group will be drawn to face teams from the unseeded group. Teams that have already faced each other in the group stage will not meet again in the quarterfinals.

As a result, CLB TP Ho Chi Minh is set to face one of three potential opponents in the quarterfinals: Abu Dhabi Country Club, Bam Khatoon, or Wuhan Jiangda.

Among these teams, Wuhan Jiangda entered the tournament as a top seed but only advanced to the quarterfinals after finishing as one of the best third-placed teams in the group stage. Abu Dhabi Country Club and Bam Khatoon were originally seeded in the fourth group but delivered impressive performances to reach the knockout stage. CLB TP Ho Chi Minh, meanwhile, was seeded in the second group before the group stage commenced.

The quarterfinals will be played as single-elimination matches. Teams in the seeded group will enjoy the advantage of hosting the games. Therefore, CLB TP Ho Chi Minh will have the home-field advantage in their quarterfinal matchup.

This quarterfinal clash will be crucial for CLB TP Ho Chi Minh, as they look to continue their remarkable journey in the AFC Women’s Champions League.
