After U17 Vietnam’s 2-0 victory over U17 Myanmar, head coach Cristiano Roland expressed his determination to help his team secure a win against U17 Yemen in the final match, aiming for a ticket to the 2025 AFC U17 Asian Cup.
Speaking to the media after the victory, Roland congratulated his players for their efforts, stating: “Congratulations to the players for playing well. Today’s match was similar to the first one against U17 Kyrgyzstan, as the opponent played with a tight defense, which made it difficult for us in the early stages.”
He went on to explain how the coaching staff analyzed the game and adjusted their strategies accordingly: “The coaching staff analyzed the situation and implemented the right tactics at the right moments. We prepared several attacking strategies. Although we didn’t score in the previous match, today we capitalized on our opportunities and achieved a good result.”
Looking ahead to the next challenge, Roland emphasized his team’s focus on winning: “As with every match, we always aim for victory, and the next match will be no exception. The coaching staff will thoroughly study the opponent to provide the players with the best information and devise an appropriate strategy.”
He also acknowledged the learning curve for his young players, saying: “These are young players, so making mistakes is inevitable, but it is part of the growth and development process. We will continue to aim for victory in the final match.”
Additionally, Roland called for understanding and support for his young team, stating: “I hope people can be sympathetic to the young players. This is their first time playing in matches with large crowds. Mistakes are normal, even at higher levels of competition. It’s all part of their development.”
He concluded by highlighting the importance of positive training and patience: “We will continue to train them well, providing the best environment for them to practice and play with a positive mindset. Like the past two matches, the opponents played very tight and difficult games, focusing on defense. Today, we were finally able to score. Mistakes are unavoidable, but the players must continue to work hard to improve.”
Roland’s statements reflect his focus on both the immediate goal of winning the next match and the broader development of his players, as they strive to secure a spot in the U17 Asian Cup finals.
