On the evening of October 25, The Cong Viettel hosted Binh Duong at Hang Day Stadium in the fifth round of the 2024/2025 V-League. Both teams entered the match level on 7 points, competing fiercely for the championship title alongside Thanh Hoa, Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL), and Hanoi FC.
The Cong Viettel started the game with great intent, pressing high and applying significant pressure on Binh Duong’s half. Coach Duc Thang’s team sought to dominate the match early, but Bình Dương demonstrated their resilience and made it clear they wouldn’t be easily overrun.
Binh Duong’s tight defensive structure created many difficulties for the home side. The Cong Viettel struggled to break through their opposition’s defense, only managing to find a breakthrough from a set piece in the 40th minute. Truong Tien Anh delivered a perfectly placed cross, allowing Duc Chien to head home the opening goal.
Despite taking the lead, The Cong Viettel encountered a major setback just before halftime when Bui Van Duc was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Tan Tai. Being reduced to 10 men forced Viettel to adopt a more defensive approach in the second half, focusing on counterattacks.
In the second half, Binh Duong increased their attacking intensity, applying considerable pressure on the Viettel defense. The visitors created several clear-cut chances but were unable to convert them into goals, with their forwards misfiring in crucial moments.
Ultimately, The Cong Viettel held on to their 1-0 lead and secured the victory. With this win, the team moved to the top of the V-League standings, temporarily leading the table with 10 points, one point ahead of Thanh Hoa, though having played one game more.
This hard-fought win underlines The Cong Viettel’s determination to challenge for the title this season, as they continue to battle against some of the league’s top teams in what is shaping up to be a fiercely contested championship race.
